Dispelling the Myths of RTW Tickets

When you book an Around the World ticket with an airline or an alliance, or even through an online booking agent, there tend to be a lot of rules associated with these tickets. We want to dispel any concerns you might have about what you can and can’t do when booking with us.

Destinations, Start and End points: You can start anywhere, go anywhere and end anywhere in any order, with any airline. It is your trip and you choose. Start and end points don’t have to be the same. You can backtrack if you want. You can stop at as many different destinations as you want. We have the freedom to pick and choose airlines and flights to make sure you get the trip you want. Your only limitation will probably be your budget, which tends to go up the more distance you travel or the more obscure destinations you choose.  It’s best to let our agents work with you to find the balance between your wish list and your budget. They have experience doing this and will get you the most bang for your buck.

Changes: You can make changes if you need to. Doing this prior to payment, you have unlimited free changes to explore. Once the tickets are paid for, we can easily change dates, though there are usually penalty charges for this. We can also change routes/destinations but the costs will usually be more because we will typically have to buy a new ticket and cancel the old one. Ideally, if you are going to make changes, you will want to try to stick to the airlines and route on your original itinerary to keep the costs as low as possible.

Open or Flex Tickets: Often, agencies who can’t provide these tickets indicate that they don’t actually exist. We offer these tickets and though the cost is more, the flexibility they offer you to be able to make changes and be spontaneous can be worth the price. If you are travelling for an extended period, you don’t need to confirm all of your dates, just the initial outbound flights. You can confirm these dates between two weeks to three days before departure and you don’t need to worry about any change fees or fare differences: the booking agent takes responsibility for the fare. You just need to be a little bit flexible within a day or two when comes time to confirm these flights. This can be very advantageous when travelling for more than 6 months or visiting more than 8 countries cause who knows what adventures might await you and might require you to change your itinerary.

One-Year Max?: Some have been told that you are required to complete your trip within a year. With us, you can travel for as long as you like. While airline bookings have limitations, only allowing us to book flights 11 months in advance and with those fares only being valid for a year from the date of purchase, we have ways to work around these airline rules to ensure you can take as much time as you want. Typically, you will buy your tickets in sections, as they become available and keeping you within the one year validity. We just can’t guarantee your boss will approve your sabbatical for that long!
